Phindile Mamba
Phindile Mamba is a self-taught artist from Mbabane who has been a full-time artist since 2014. “Most of my paintings are about women, I see them struggling and living a very painful life. Women are abused because they do not have the power to fight, and this touches me deeply and shows in many of my paintings. I also explore happier topics as some women do live a happy life with their families. I also explore the ideas that women can do everything a man does and have the power. People in Eswatini must start trusting women and giving them respect and power. But women must also make themselves powerful!” Phindile’s work is in private art collections around the world. She has exhibited at FNB Art Joburg twice and at The Turbine Art Fair in collaboration with White River Art Gallery. Her work is featured in a book “On Balance, a woman from each African Country.” Phindile participated in The Art on a Postcard exhibition in London. A selection of her work will feature in 2022 in an exhibition curated by The World Bank Group called We are Africa: The power of Women and Youth. She has also been selected to feature in the Africa South Art Initiative website featuring her work and career. Her work is also selected for an exhibition at The Forge in South Africa for an exhibition titled Eswatini: Protest and Hope in early 2022.
